Dozens of manufacturers
offer dishwashers with various bells and whistles. The primary
features that are most important to our clientele are:
- Quiet!
- Integrated (hidden) Controls
- Stainless or Wood Panel Door
Option
- Sealed Drying (protects your
dishes from being exposed to air outside the unit). Some
units pull air from the front toe-kick area to dry the dishes.
Sealed drying does not expose the dishes to dirty air
- Stainless Steel Interior Tub
- Adjustable racks
- Various wash cycles and delayed
start
- User-Friendly style & convenience
- Economical to operate (low water
usage)
- Large capacity
Cool trends in dishwashers:
-
Fisher
& Paykel offers the "dish drawer" which allows you the convenience
of 2 independent dishwashers. Or choose 2 single drawers and
put one on each side of your sink. Never bend over to load
and unload the dishwasher again!
-
Integrated (hidden) controls
enable you to put a cabinet front on the dishwasher and completely
hide it from view. The stainless integrated model makes for
a very stylish design that blends with any décor. Bosch,
Gaggenau and Asko are our picks for this option.
-
Extra large unit: The
standard width for a dishwasher is 24". Dacor has developed
the 30" model that holds up to 20 place settings! It is
quiet and beautifully designed, but used mostly in new
construction because of the added room it requires.
-
Placement of unit: You
can make loading the dishwasher less of a chore by raising it up
off the floor a few inches so that you don't have to bend over so
far in loading & unloading. If you're right handed, consider
placing it to the left of the sink. That way, if you hold
the plate in your left hand while you scrape the food off with
your right, you won't have to switch hands to load it.
